The big day

Filming Destination RCT

sunny 19 °C
View A trip around Rhondda Cynon Taf on damadge's travel map.

We were filming. It was next Wednesday. And it was October. In Wales.
What a day! Glorious weather and views for miles and miles.

We met the film crew at Dare Valley Country Park in Aberdare. After brief introductions we boarded a land rover and climbed into the hills above Dare Valley. What a ride! Amazing views over Aberdare and the crags of the Country Park.

Next, Penderyn Whisky - the home of Welsh Whisky. A trip around the new visitor centre and a tasting. Great fun.

Cynon Valley Museum & Gallery in Aberdare Town Centre is a modern museum based in the old Gadlys Ironworks buildings. It houses two galleries - currently featuring some very attractive modern art and some amazing portraiture.

A quick bite to eat at the small restaurant in the Cynon Valley Museum & Gallery and we are off again. This time to Penrhys - an ancient pilgrimage site and the home of Rhondda Golf Course - one of the highest golf courses in Wales. After taking in the exhilarating views, we dropped down into the Rhondda. Next stop - Mr Creamy Ice Creams... all made in Rhondda. I had Turkish Delight. The film crew were delighted when we bought them an ice cream. Bless.

Then, off to Rhondda Heritage Park for a impromptu tour. Well worth it - loved the underground tour.

Finally Taff Valley buggies in Pontypridd... where we got some great footage of Quad bikes attacking the camera man!

An enjoyable day and a great reminder to me of just how special the South Wales Valleys are.
